Stella's Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness Walkthrough

NOTES ON THE REMASTER: At this point I can't guarantee 100% accuracy for this guide. Updates are in progress but will take time. Levels that have been worked on will say "Remastered," rather than "Classic," in the title. In the meantime, I have attempted to provide a running count of all kills and pickups, including totals for health packs, chocolates, sellable items, and cash, as well as notebook entries, which are needed for some achievements/trophies. If I've missed any, I do apologize. Please let me know if you discover anything not mentioned here. Also, in case it's not obvious, these guides are based on classic tank controls.

LEVEL 3: INDUSTRIAL ROOFTOPS (Remaster)

Angel of Darkness Remastered Video Walkthrough by Eldincy

Items: 14, including 5 health items, 1 chocolate, 3 treasure
Kills: 2
Upgrades: Lower Body

At the beginning of the level, Lara comes under fire from the police helicopter; however, as long as you move at a moderate pace and seek cover, she won't take much damage. Trying to hurry and falling from the rooftops is much more dangerous.

ROOFTOP TO ROOFTOP: Climb the ladder ahead. Then use the wire to traverse across the alley. Lara explains what to do: Stand below the wire and jump straight up to grab it. Hold Forward to climb across. When you reach the edge of the next roof, Lara prompts you to press Duck to pull her legs up. Hold both Duck and Forward to move past the obstacle. Release Duck but continue pressing Forward to swing hand-over-hand until Lara is hanging above the flat roof. Then press Action to let go and drop. (screenshots)

NOTE: If you prefer, you can switch between holding or toggling Duck in the menu under Options > Control > Duck Mode. Later, when you unlock the ability to Sprint, you can do the same with Dash Mode.

Run forward under the small enclosure with a stack of crates that will shield Lara from gunfire. Pick up some bandages (1). Beyond the crates, the roof slopes downward, but there's a section with ladder-like bars that Lara can stand on without sliding. Activate walk mode and move carefully down this ladder. Lara can still slide off if you step off the ladder. (If you do slip, hold Action to grab the edge, then traverse until Lara is hanging below the ladder and pull up.) Stand at the bottom of the ladder and jump forward to grab the edge of the roof across the gap. Pull up and crawl into the crate to get more bandages (2). (screenshots)

There are two ways to get down from here: If you want to be an action hero and don't care about missing a pickup, walk to the edge of the roof nearer the helicopter, turn around, and slide backwards while holding Action to crash through the skylight and grab the edge of the opening. Then press Action again to drop to the floor. By doing this, you will miss the doubloons in the hall below because the door only opens from the outside. (Skip the next paragraph.) (screenshots)

Alternatively, if you want all pickups, face the helicopter and the crate where you found the bandages. Step backwards to the edge of the roof and then safety drop onto the small catwalk between the two buildings. You can see a large health pack below. You'll get that shortly. For now, barge open the door and enter the second building. Pick up Antique Doubloons (3) in the hallway and continue to the next room. (This is where you land if you crash through the skylight.) (screenshots)

Get the M-V9 ammo (4) on the floor near the lockers and a chocolate bar (5) on the small table. Exit through the door near the table. (screenshots)

You emerge on another high walkway outdoors. Ahead are a door and a ladder. The door opens, but don't go that way if you want all pickups. Walk to the ladder and climb to the top. Here there's a storage tank of some kind and another short ladder. Climb it to find V-packer standard cartridges (6) on the platform above. (screenshots)

NOTE: If you like, you can take a big shortcut here. To go directly to the end of the level, move to the edge of the platform where you found the cartridges, facing the helicopter. Step off the edge and slide down onto the narrow walkway between two sloping roofs. Pick up some health pills (14, below) on the ground to the left. Then follow the walkway to a short ladder. Climb it. Then jump across the alley to the next, slightly lower rooftop. Behind the little shed you'll find more Antique Doubloons (13, below). Approach the far side of the roof to trigger the final cut scene. (screenshot)

To continue the long way, with all pickups, after getting the V-packer cartridges, drop back down through the opening with the short ladder, return to the top of the long ladder, and climb down to the ground. (screenshots)

NOTE: As in the previous classic games, you can descend ladders faster by repeatedly tapping Action to let go and re-grab, though you may want to quick-save before long descents just in case.

ALLEYWAYS: At the bottom of the long ladder there's a flaming barrel. (More of a landmark than an actual hazard.) First, go left, around the corner, past a closed garage door, and left again into a dead-end alley, where you'll find a large health pack (7). (Maybe you noticed it earlier from above.) (screenshots)

Return to the end of the alley. To the left is a chain-link fence with a gate that doesn't open and razor wire on top. There's a gap in the razor wire on the left side where Lara can climb over. Beyond the fence is a rottweiler (1) and a dumpster with Impactor batteries (8) inside. If you're going for the "Good Boys" achievement/trophy (no injuring or being injured by dogs), save before climbing over the fence, then take extra care to avoid the dog as you run around the corner, jump into the dumpster to get the batteries, jump out, then run back around the corner and climb over the fence. (Or, if you're looking for all kills, you can melee attack the dog instead.) (screenshots)

Return down the slope past the garage door to the ladder and flaming barrel. Find the movable tank to the left of the ladder and pull it toward the flaming barrel to gain a lower-body strength upgrade. (screenshots)

Continue past the flaming barrel to a corner with a heap of wooden cable spools. Pick up M-V9 ammo (9) on the ground just around the corner. (screenshots)

NOTE: At the end of the alley, past the partially open roll-up door, is another chain link fence that Lara can climb. However, there's only another mean old dog (2) on the other side. No goodies. So unless you want all kills, you can avoid it.

EMPTY WAREHOUSE: Crawl under the partially open roll-up door. Inside the building there's a large health pack (10) on the floor to the left, near a climbable pipe. This pipe leads up to the door where you would have entered had you not come down the ladder. No need to go there now. Instead, climb onto the metal cube with the four fans and jump to grab the ledge to the left (i.e., left when Lara's back is to the roll-up door). Pull up and follow the metal walkway around to the left. (screenshots)

If you got the lower body upgrade earlier, Lara will tell you she can make the next jump. Take a running jump across the room and grab the narrow ledge on the far wall. Traverse to the left and pull up onto the metal walkway. (screenshots)

NOTE: If you missed the upgrade, crawl back outside, head to the right around the corner, and find the movable tank. Pull it as far as you can toward the flaming barrel to strengthen Lara's legs (above). Return to the warehouse and make that jump.

Climb the ladder to the walkway above. Dismount on the right and pick up V-Packer standard cartridges (11). Jump the gap and exit through the door on the left. Follow the hallway past a door that doesn't open. Go through the second door to emerge outdoors on a tiny ledge overlooking a back alley. (screenshots)

BACK ALLEY WITH FIRE ESCAPES: The second guard dog (2) lurks below if you didn't kill it earlier. Jump across the gap onto the fire escape. Go down one flight and get some Antique Doubloons (12). Then climb to the top of the fire escape. Enter the building, climb another ladder, and exit onto the roof. (screenshots)

FINAL ROOFTOP: Go around the back of the small shed to find more Antique Doubloons (13). You don't have to do this last part, but if you want every pick up, , move to the edge of the building nearest the hovering helicopter. (It's not shooting at you now, so take your time.) At the break in the fence, step up onto the edge, then jump across the gap between the buildings into the V-shaped depression on the next rooftop. Run forward to find some health pills (14) at the end of the walkway. Turn around and head back the way you came, but instead of jumping across the gap between the buildings, climb the short ladder. Walk forward to the edge. Then jump from the higher roof down onto the building where you found the Doubloons earlier. Move past the little shed and approach the far edge of the roof to end the level. (screenshots)

Cut scene: The police helicopter corners Lara on the rooftop. She makes a daring leap to a drainpipe, then falls into a dumpster. Our heroine emerges unscathed and heads off to find Von Croy's friend Margot Carvier.

*NOTE ON LEVEL MAPS: VGCartography's Angel of Darkness maps follow a slightly different level-naming convention than I do. You'll notice most of the Parisian Ghetto-adjacent areas on the same large map. Later, the elemental levels off the Hall of Seasons are included on the same map as the hub level.
