NOTES ON THE REMASTER: At this point I can't guarantee 100% accuracy for this guide. Updates are in progress but will take time. Levels that have been worked on will say "Remastered," rather than "Classic," in the title. In the meantime, I have attempted to provide a running count of all kills and pickups, including totals for health packs, chocolates, sellable items, and cash, as well as notebook entries, which are needed for some achievements/trophies. If I've missed any, I do apologize. Please let me know if you discover anything not mentioned here. Also, in case it's not obvious, these guides are based on classic tank controls, and I have not yet included strats for all achievements/trophies.
LEVEL 19: VON CROY'S APARTMENT (Remaster)
Updated: 4/21/25(†)
LEVEL MAP by VGCartography (used with permission)*
Angel of Darkness Remastered Video Walkthrough by Eldincy
Items: 36, including 6 health items, 1 chocolate, Von Croy's Jackal Walking Stick, RIGG 09, and VIPER SMG AUTOMATIC*
Kills: 1
Upgrades: Lower Body
Notebook Entries: 2
*NOTE: There is one infinitely respawning ammo pickup (below). It is only counted once in the stat line above, since it doesn't appear unless you run out of Rigg ammunition.
WERNER'S PLACE - DOWNSTAIRS: You begin the level without weapons, though you still have whatever ammo and health you've collected. The Obscura Painting is gone, stolen by Kurtis, but you now have the mysterious Crystal Shard left on the ground in the alley near the Louvre. You receive a notebook update (37/62) as well: "Check out Von Croy's apartment for missing Obscura Engravings." (Again, this page on Von Croy's Notebook lists all entries.)
The apartment has obviously been ransacked, but at least the bad guys left plenty of bullets lying around. First, pick up Von Croy's JACKAL WALKING STICK (1), lying on the rug in the middle of the room, but don't use it. Just leave it in your inventory for now. Using the walking stick triggers the appearance of The Cleaner (1). If you wait, you can search the place thoroughly before he shows up. (screenshots)
Taking the walking stick also unlocks a new notebook entry (38/62): "What was Von Croy hiding? I need to look carefully." Be sure to read it, and the entry added at the start of the level, for the "Memento Mori" achievement/trophy.
Don't venture too far into the FOYER yet. Bouchard's minions have rigged laser tripwires with bundles of explosives. If Lara sets them off, she'll be killed. (screenshots)
Search the work area to find more information about the Lux Veritatis (computer desk on the left) and the Sanglyph (smaller desk on the right). (screenshot)
Now move around the dining table to find the RIGG 09 (2) (not exactly state-of-the-art, but it'll have to do for now) and 4 clips (3-6) for it: two near the gun, one by the brick column, and one in the corner by the window. (screenshots)
NOTE: In the classic game, the Rigg ammo near the square column would respawn infinitely. No such luck here, though it does reappear if you run out of ammo during your fight with The Cleaner. We shouldn't need to test that, though.
Move to the KITCHEN where you'll find 3 more Rigg clips (7-9), one on the floor, one on the left counter, one on the center island, as well as some bandages (10) under the spiral staircase. Kick down the wooden door in the corner behind the staircase for a lower-body strength upgrade. Pick up some viper ammo (11) and 2 Rigg clips (12-13) in the hall beyond. (screenshots)
WERNER'S PLACE - UPSTAIRS: Continue up the back stairs to the BATHROOM. Find more Rigg ammo (14) on the floor near the radiator, plus a small medipack (15) mounted on the wall. Use your new-found quad strength to kick open the BEDROOM door. (screenshots)
NOTE: This door doesn't open from the other side. So if you come up the spiral stairs to the BEDROOM, you'll need to go back down and kick open the other door to get the upgrade and gain access to the bath.
In the BEDROOM, search the writing desk for intel on the mysterious Cabal. Find 3 Rigg clips (16-18) on the floor and 2 more Rigg clips (19-20) in the closet, along with a large health pack (21). When you've got everything, descend the spiral stairs to the kitchen. (screenshots)
DOWNSTAIRS AGAIN: When you're ready to confront The Cleaner (1), move around behind the overturned chair. Equip the Rigg 09. Then open your Inventory to Items, select and use the JACKAL WALKING STICK. The boss's health bar appears, and the man himself comes through the doorway from the FOYER soon after. You can get in a few shots as he crosses the room and takes cover behind the kitchen counter. At this point, he'll start firing, so you'll need to crouch down behind the chair. Just take care to crouch a little to the left of the gap between the chair and the brick column, since he can shoot through that gap. When he stops firing, stand up and get a few more hits in. Then crouch if he starts shooting again. (screenshots)
NOTE: Again, you probably won't need it, but if you do happen to run out of Rigg ammunition while fighting The Cleaner, the clip near the brick column respawns so you can pick it up again. (screenshot)
When his health is reduced to half, The Cleaner will flee. You can't target him while he's retreating, so don't waste ammo. Now you can finish searching the apartment if you missed anything. When you're ready, follow him into the hallway. (screenshots)
BOOBY-TRAPPED HALLWAY: He's disarmed the laser tripwires in the FOYER but set others out in the hallway of the apartment building. These prevent you from going left, so turn right and move to end of the hall. Break through the red emergency door. (If you try this before getting the upgrade, Lara will tell you she's not strong enough.) Enter carefully; there are more lasers to the left. Pick up another Rigg clip (22) and a small medipack (23). Return to the hallway and go through the open door on the right. (screenshots)
NEIGHBORING APARTMENT: Pick up the Rigg ammo (24) on the floor among the newspapers. Then get the second Rigg clip (25) behind the loveseat. When you do this, The Cleaner (1) uses a machine gun to cut his way in through the wall then switches to dual handguns. Lara can crouch behind the loveseat for cover or run/crawl around behind the wall. But you're probably better off just running up to him and doing as much damage as possible, as fast as possible. Once his health is reduced to about 10%, he'll runs off again. Follow him through the hole in the wall. Get the chocolate bar (26) on the table and The Cleaner's VIPER SMG (27) and 2 clips (28-29) on the floor. (screenshots)
NOTE: This is chocolate 14/20 for the "Chocollection" achievement/trophy.
TRAPPED HALLWAY (again): Move cautiously into the hallway. There are new laser tripwires here now. You can't go to the left due to the zig-zagging lasers. So turn right and commando crawl underneath the horizontal lasers: Hold Duck, press Stealth to go lower, then crawl forward. You can stand up after the first laser then jump over the third or just crawl all the way to the end of the hall. (screenshots)
BURNING STAIRWELL: When you round the corner at the end of the hall, bombs explode, destroying part of the staircase and setting fires here and there. To get the small medipack (30) at the far end of the hall, vault up onto the balustrade at the corner of the demolished stairs. Jump over the railing to the right of the burning debris. At the end of the hallway, you'll find the health pack hanging on the wall. Get it, return to the stairwell, and take a running jump over the railing onto the corner landing below on the left. (screenshots)
Turn around and take a standing jump (with Action so Lara doesn't bang her face) down to the next landing. Fire prevents you from entering the hall ahead, so hang from the edge of the floor at the break in the railing and drop to the floor below. (screenshots)
The door marked "Sortie" isn't actually an exit. Get the large health pack (31) on the table and Rigg (32) and Viper clips (33) under the stairs. Then climb the stairs, jumping over the little piles of rubble as you go. At the top, where burning debris blocks the way to the right, turn left and advance cautiously. (screenshots)
FINAL HALLWAY: You'll notice more explosives mounted just around the corner, and The Cleaner's health bar reappears. If you hug the wall (Stealth then Action) and lean out to the right, you can spot him at the end of the hallway. (Or just use Photo Mode to scout ahead.) (screenshots)
Keep your weapon stowed ad you advance to the next corner, just ahead on the right. When you pass the first set of explosives, the tripwires are armed, and you can't go back. Pick up the Viper clip (34) on the floor just to the left. (The Cleaner should ignore Lara for now.) Then run along the hallway into the first doorway on the left side. Pick up a Rigg clip (35) here. When you do, the tripwire behind you activates, so you can't retreat. Run across the hall to the next doorway, where you'll find more Rigg ammo (36). (screenshots)
Step back a bit, while still staying in the cover of the doorway, and scope out the lasers ahead: A set of two beams, then a set of three. Notice how the first set cycles on and off, as do the top two lasers in the second set. When the first set of lasers turns off, get ready to move. As soon as the top two lasers in the second set go off, take a running jump to clear the bottom laser. The Cleaner opens fire now, so run on into the doorway on the left. (screenshots)
He's set more tripwires ahead, but you can take him out fairly easily from here. If you have plenty of health left, just step out and open fire. Or, if you want to play it safe, without drawing a weapon, go into Stealth mode, then press Action to hug the wall to the right of the door. Draw the Rigg, lean out to the right, and start shooting. Just a few rounds should finish him off. Defeating The Cleaner unlocks the "Room Service" achievement/trophy. (screenshots)
Cutscene: Lara comes downstairs to examine The Cleaner's body. She answers his ringing phone and recognizes Bouchard's voice. "Is she taken care of? Is she dead yet? We have to get back to Prague." Lara informs him she's not dead, but his little friend is. She vows to take care of Bouchard later. Finishing her search, she finds Mathias Vasiley's business card, which interestingly has the Lux Veritatis symbol on it. Guess it's time for a little road trip. Lara uses The Cleaner's remote control to disarm the remaining bombs and unlock his SUV.... Some time later she arrives in Prague.

*NOTE ON LEVEL MAPS: VGCartography's Angel of Darkness maps follow a slightly different level-naming convention than I do. You'll notice most of the Parisian Ghetto-adjacent areas on the same large map. Later, the elemental levels off the Hall of Seasons are included on the same map as the hub level. Visit VGCartography on DeviantArt and follow on Twitter/X and YouTube for more fantastic game maps.
