STELLA'S TOMB RAIDER CHRONICLES REMASTERED WALKTHROUGH
NOTES ON THE REMASTER: I have attempted to provide running kill, item, and secret counts. (Details are in a footnote following the first-level walkthrough.) I have also tried to cover all achievements/trophies, except New Game+. These guides are based on classic tank controls, but I hope they will be useful for those using modern controls. Follow this link for the archived classic guide. Chronicles does not include a "Restart Level" option, so I recommend making a new save at the beginning of each level in case you need to replay. Follow this link for Steam/GOG save files.
LEVEL 12: ESCAPE WITH THE IRIS (Remaster)

Chronicles Remastered Video Walkthrough by Eldincy
Pickups: 19, including a Cloth, 4 Bottles of Chloroform, Restroom Access Card, Teleporter Disk, and 3 Golden Rose Secrets*
Kills: none**
IMPORTANT: The Von Croy Industries (VCI) Headquarters levels can be difficult, especially the final level, Red Alert! Unlike previous levels and previous Tomb Raider games, you have neither unlimited ammo nor the luxury of collecting supplies over many levels. So be sure to conserve ammo and health, or you may not finish. Whenever possible, I have tried to describe useful strategies for staying safe. As always, I recommend making a new save at the start of each level, in case you need to replay. If you're playing the Steam/GOG version, you can download remastered save files here.
STILL ON THE 13th FLOOR: Follow the corridor around to the left.
Voiceover: You can still control Lara, but don't run forward until you hear what Zip has to say over the headset. He advises Lara to place her weapon in the tray before going through the scanners ahead.
This time take Zip's advice. If Lara goes through the scanners with her gun (beyond the overhead restroom and "Danger" signs), alarms will go off, and the gun turrets at each end of the hall will be activated. So approach the Lucite shelf on the left. (screenshots)
Cutscene: Lara places her gun on the tray.
Once you enter the scanner, you'll see Lara in X-ray view. Proceed to the right. There are 2 containers sitting on the floor. Don't mess with the first one; it contains a bomb. The second case holds a small medipack (1) (200/239). Stand to the left of it and press Interact to search inside. Continue through the small lounge with the water cooler to a T-intersection. (screenshots)
Voiceover: You still have movement as you listen to Zip's advice. He tells Lara to avoid the stairs and elevators, and instead head for the roof.
Pick up the HK ammo (2) (201/239) on the floor to the right. You can see the ELEVATORS at the end of the hall, but don't approach them yet. Invisible lasers block the way. These will kill Lara on contact. (Zip will tell you about this later, but if you equip the Headset then press Action for infrared, you'll be able to see the laser beams. Check the note following the 13th FLOOR walkthrough for Headset controls.) Head in the other direction to the next corner. (screenshots)
NOTE: If you stop to use the security monitor, you'll get a view of an armor-clad soldier on an outside staircase. There's no need to worry about him yet.
Beyond the monitor, turn right and continue to another intersection. The office door directly ahead opens automatically as you approach. Go in and search the cabinet on the right to find a BOTTLE OF CHLOROFORM (3) (202/239). (For whatever reason, the second bottle you found in the last level does not carry over.) (screenshots)
The RESTROOM, on the left as you exit the office, has a locked door with a keypad. You don't have the combination yet, but if you enter Lara's birthday (February 14th, or 1402), then press Enter/Action to confirm the combination, you'll unlock the "You Remembered!" achievement/trophy. Continue along the corridor to find the real code. (screenshots)
Cutscene: A guard stands just around the corner.
Go into the next office on the right and search the file cabinet for a CLOTH (4) (203/239). Then continue along the corridor, walking as you approach the next corner. Walk up behind the security guard, combine the CLOTH and CHLOROFORM, then use the CHLOROFORM-SOAKED CLOTH on the guard. (screenshots)
Cutscene: Lara subdues the guard. Unfortunately his gun fades away along with him.
Before going on, turn around so the wall of windows is on Lara's left. Then go into the office just ahead (i.e., the door nearest to where the guard was standing). Search the chest of drawers for a small medipack (5) (204/239). Then follow the windowed hall. The doors on the left open as you approach. The first office has nothing useful. The second has another BOTTLE OF CHLOROFORM (6) (205/239). (What do these VCI executives get up to on their breaks?) The third office has a RESTROOM ACCESS CARD (7) (206/239). (screenshots)
Return all the way down the hall to the keypad near the locked RESTROOM. If you haven't already unlocked the "You Remembered!" achievement/trophy, as described above, do that now. Then go back into your inventory and take a closer look at that card. The access code printed on it is 8526. Enter this code and press Enter/Action again to unlock the door. (screenshots)
Go inside and turn left into the ladies' room. Press Look to regain camera control. Approach the middle stall and press Action to kick open the stall door. Inside is a large medipack (8) (207/239). Exit and go left to the men's room. Kick open the first stall. Then position Lara in the stall doorway and jump straight up and grab to pull open a trapdoor in the ceiling. Climb into the duct above. (screenshots)
VENTILATION DUCTS: Crawl to the left until Lara can stand. Turn around and hang from the edge. Let go and immediately press Action again to grab a small niche a little way down the shaft. Then let go and drop. (This prevents Lara from losing about half her health from the fall.) Crawl through the opening under the red flashing light, but don't roll out of the duct. It's a long way down. (screenshots)
ELEVATOR SHAFT: Instead, crawl backwards toward the edge. Then hold Action + Back/Down to ease Lara out of the opening onto the climbable wall below. Press Look to reorient. Then position Lara at the middle of the opening, so the vertical chain is directly behind her. If you're having trouble with this, try climbing as far as possible to the left. Then lightly press and release Right twice to climb toward the middle. This should put Lara in the correct spot. (If you like, you can quick-save while hanging. Just be sure to hold Action when reloading so Lara doesn't fall.) Now press Jump + Roll + Action together to make Lara spring from the wall, somersault in midair, and grab the chain behind her. Continue to hold Action and slide down the chain to the bottom. (screenshots)
Once Lara is standing on the flat ledge at the base of the chain, turn around to face the alcove with the golden rose. Step to the back right corner of the ledge (farthest from the alcove opening and out of the way of the chain). Then take a standing jump over the slippery slope into the alcove. Retrieve the golden rose (9) (208/239) (SECRET #1, 31/36). Then take a standing jump from the edge of the opening back to the ledge at the bottom of the chain. (screenshots)
NOTE: The method described above seems to work well in the remaster. If you want or need an alternative approach to the secret, check the footnote and this page with screenshots.
With the secret alcove behind Lara, grab the chain and climb nearly to the top. When you glimpse a metal ledge behind Lara, climb up until Lara is hanging level with or just above the ledge. Then backflip onto it. Turn right (so the open shaft is ahead and on Lara's left). Walk to the edge, hop back, then take a running jump to grab the horizontal pole ahead and slightly above. Release Action to land in the alcove on the other side of the shaft. Take a carefully angled standing jump from the right side of the alcove to grab the top edge of the elevator car; pull up. (screenshots)
ON TOP OF THE ELEVATORS: Ignore the trapdoor on top of the elevator car for now, and walk across the tops of the elevators to the far left to get some HK ammo (10) (209/239). (screenshots)
The "30/10" achievement/trophy requires you to "perform a full triple somersault dive." This is the perfect spot. Walk out onto either of the slightly angled square platforms between the elevator cars and the wall. Face the matching square ledge opposite and walk to the edge. Hold Walk Quick-save (since Lara will die when she lands). Hold Walk then press and hold Forward + Jump + Roll together to swan dive off the edge and and immediately start somersaulting in the air. Once Lara is airborne, you can release all buttons except Roll. Continue to hold Roll, and Lara should do two more somersaults before landing in a bone-crunching heap at the bottom of the elevator shaft. When the notification pops, reload and pretend like that never happened. (screenshots)
Move onto the gray VCI box between the two elevators and face the trapdoor handle. (If you have Action Indicators enabled in the Options menu, you'll see the hand icon when Lara is in the right spot.) Press Action to open the well-camouflaged trapdoor. Drop into the elevator car. Press the buttons, approach the doors, and wait for them to open. Quick-save again before venturing out. The next bit isn't difficult, but there is an achievement/trophy involved. (screenshots)
13th FLOOR (again): There's a security guard in the hall to the left and, beyond him, more invisible lasers. (You can see them if you equip the headset and press Action.) In the classic game, you could not use chloroform on this guard, but it does work in the remaster. So walk quietly out of the elevator amd sneak up behind the guard. Open your inventory, combine CLOTH + CHLOROFORM, and use them to knock him out. He drops a large medipack (not counted as an official pickup). Taking it unlocks the "Sweet Dreams" achievement/trophy. (screenshots)
NOTES: The medipack is added to your inventory, but the total pickup count on the Statistics screen does not change. If you missed the cloth and/or chloroform earlier, ignore the guard and proceed directly to the second elevator.
Do not move past where the guard was stationed or Lara will run into the lasers. Instead, turn around, and use the button between the two elevators to call the second one. Enter and save the game before using the buttons to ride up to a dangerous area. (screenshots)
UPPER-FLOOR AMBUSH: The reception on this unnumbered floor is quite hostile. Two security guards and an armored soldier immediately notice Lara and attack. There are 2 large medipacks (11-12) (210-211/239) at the end of the hall behind them. If you must have all pickups, sprint (or take running jumps) past the men. Weave down the hallway as you go, so the armored guy's pulse weapon is less likely to hit you, and quickly grab both health packs. (Use one of them if necessary.) Then hustle back to the elevator, again swerving from side to side to minimize damage, and press the buttons again to close the elevator doors. Alternatively, if you don't care about 100% completion, it's safer not to exit the car at all and immediately press the buttons again to close the doors. (screenshots)
Cutscene: After pressing the buttons, the elevator cable snaps, and the car plummets down the shaft.
A BUMPY RIDE: Quickly press the buttons again to activate the emergency brakes, otherwise Lara will be killed in the fall. If you do use the brake, Zip has a minor heart attack, but Lara survives. (screenshots)
Voiceover: Zip informs Lara she's on the ground floor and needs to make her way upward again.
GROUND FLOOR - ELEVATOR SHAFT AND SERVICE DUCTS: You can glimpse the ground-floor hallway—with a glass aquarium and Fizwiz Cola machine—beyond the jagged opening, but Lara can't fit through. Instead, climb through the trapdoor in the ceiling onto the top of the elevator car. Turn around, jump over the trapdoor, and walk to the edge nearest the cables for the other elevator. Take a standing jump to grab the horizontal pole. Let go then press Action again to grab the ledge with the red-and-black edge on the far side of the elevator shaft. Pull up. Scale the climbable wall at the right end of the ledge until Lara's feet are level with or just above the second horizontal steel beam. (There's also a red flashing light mounted on the wall just to the right.) Backflip onto the ledge behind. (screenshots)
Move to the other end of this ledge and take a running jump to grab the next horizontal pole. Let go to land on the opposite ledge. Climb into the crawlspace above. (You'll get the chloroform in the alcove near the pole shortly.) Crawl forward until Lara can stand. (screenshots)
Quick-save before attempting the next gymnastic sequence. First, angle Lara slightly downhill before stepping off. Slide down the first slope onto a second, perpendicular slope. When Lara reaches the middle of the grate on the second slope, jump and grab the horizontal pole above. If you miss, Lara will slide into the incinerator at the bottom of the chute. After grabbing the first pole, release then press Action again to grab a second pole. (You can't see it yet, but trust that it exists.) Keep holding Action and swinging around the second pole until the flame on the ledge ahead goes out. Then let go to land there. Quickly hop back once so Lara doesn't catch fire when the flame reignites. (screenshots)
Walk to the outside corner of the ledge and take a standing jump to grab the edge of the opening with the multicolored wires. Pull up. Now tightrope walk across the horizontal pole to the other side. Pick up the BOTTLE OF CHLOROFORM (13) (212/239). Slide down the long chute into a small, dark room with a crawlspace leading out to a well-lit corridor. Quick-save again as soon as Lara touches down. Timing is important for the next sequence. (screenshots)
GROUND FLOOR - HALLWAY WITH AQUARIUM: There's a security guard patrolling the hallway. To avoid the minor bug noted below, as soon as the guard passes to the right, crawl out and run/sprint past him to the end of the hall. Stand in front of the right panel of the glass aquarium (on the end wall near the Fizwiz machine) and draw the guard's fire to shatter the glass. The shallow depression at the back of tank contains a golden rose (14) (213/239) (SECRET #2, 32/36). Grab it quickly. Then roll and run around the corner (in either direction) into the next room. Fortunately the guard loses interest in Lara as soon as she's out of sight. (He'll never quite get over the loss of that rose, though. It's probably coming out of his paycheck.) (screenshots)
BUG NOTE: Rather than patrolling back and forth, this guard can get stuck in the glass wall of the aquarium if you wait too long in the crawlspace. (screenshot) If this happens, you can reload and try again, or crawl out, wait for him to notice Lara and move toward her, then run past him and draw his fire toward the aquarium. Lara will take more damage this way, but at least you can continue.
THREE-TIERED ATRIUM WITH SHALLOW POOL: Follow the ramp up to the middle level. When you do, the view shifts to show Lara is being targeted by a sniper. Avoid the laser-trapped doors and run to the right, around the edge of the room, taking care not to run off the edge of the walkway. Climb the bars to the left of the big, wooden doors. (Lara is safe for the moment as she climbs.) Dismount on the ledge above on the right. Run around to the other side of the upper ledge (i.e., directly above the laser-trapped doors). Press the button to deactivate the lasers and open those doors but don't drop down yet. (screenshots)
First, let the sniper help you get the third secret. Take a moment to top up Lara's health if necessary. (She's safe when standing near the button, but if her health is already very low, she may catch fire during the next maneuver.) Step to the middle right side of the slight depression in front of the button. Flip to the right toward the wall-mounted fire extinguisher. Then quickly flip back toward the button. The sniper should shoot the fire extinguisher, blowing away a section of wall. Flip back to the right, run into the alcove, and pick up the golden rose (15) (214/239) (SECRET #3, 33/36). Roll and run back out. Roll again to face the alcove, hop back, and grab the edge of the ledge. Drop down and quickly run through the door you just opened. The sniper can no longer target Lara once she enters this hallway, but don't rush forward; there's more danger and an achievement/trophy ahead. (screenshots)
NOTE: The "Open Up!" achievement/trophy requires you to "get the teleport disk before the guards cut the door open." This door is coming up soon. I have a few tips to make things easier and get all pickups without having to replay the whole section. So you may want to read ahead. If you don't care about achievements, you can skip the large medipack pickup and take your time after escaping from the LOUNGE WITH THE GUN TURRETS.
INNER CORRIDORS: A security guard emerges from the door on the left after Lara passes. There's another aquarium at the end of the hall. Run toward it, jumping over the lower area of floor, which is electrified. Stand on the step in front of the aquarium and turn right to face the button beside the big, wooden doors. Wait for the guard to shoot the glass. The flood shorts out the floor so you can run forward and press the button. Flip to the right and run through the doors as they open. Turn left and run forward but stop before entering the LOUNGE ahead. Entering the room triggers a cutscene, and ideally, you want to wait to do that. (screenshots)
When you pressed that last button to open the doors, you also opened the other set of doors, to the left of the aquarium, letting in a soldier in power armor wielding a pulse rifle. If you want all pickups, you'll need to retrieve a large medipack (16) (215/239) sitting on the floor where the soldier came from. (screenshots)
NOTE: If you don't care about this pickup, quick-save here in the doorway and skip to the the next section.
Getting the medipack can be tricky. So turn around, heal if necessary, quick-save, then head back into the corridor. Sprint or take running jumps past the two enemies. Weaving back and forth a little as you run/sprint toward the health pack makes it harder for the soldier to target Lara with his energy weapon. Ease off the Sprint button as you approach the health pack, so Lara doesn't overshoot. Grab it, roll, and sprint or taking running jumps back the way you came. Heal if necessary and weave between the enemies as you go. Again, turn left toward the LOUNGE and stop in the doorway. The enemies should not pursue. If things have gone well, quick-save again. Now comes the timed run for the achievement/trophy. (screenshots)
LOUNGE WITH COUCHES, POTTED PLANTS, AND GUN TURRETS: Entering the LOUNGE triggers a cutscene, so if possible, sprint in, veering a little to the left as you go. This will put Lara in a good spot when the cutscene finishes. (screenshots)
Cutscene: Lara tells Zip that the VCI people are cutting through the door with welding equipment. He informs her that the room she's in is rigged with motion sensors and advises her to move slowly so she doesn't activate the gun turrets.
IMPORTANT: The timer begins when the cutscene starts, not when it finishes. So, I recommend watching it once to get the gist. Then reload, sprint into the room, and skip the cutscene (by holding the Draw Weapon button). If you do this, you'll have about 50 seconds to get the disk before the guards break in. If you don't care about this particular achievement, follow the same sequence, but take your time. Once you enter the hallway beyond the LOUNGE, the enemies will not pursue.
There are 2 buttons flanking the exit. Walk to the left button and press it. Without hesitating, walk to the right button and press it as well. This opens one of the doors between the two buttons. Run through. Then continue through the open door on the left. The turrets will activate, but once you enter the next hallway, the closed door will shield Lara from gunfire. (screenshots)
If you're after the achievement/trophy, sprint forward, easing off the Sprint/Dash button as you run through the doorway ahead on the right. Run/sprint into the TELEPORTER ROOM, through the doorway on the left, and into a well-lit ROOM WITH SEVEN SUITCASES. Six of these contain bombs. One holds the disk. Don't hesitate. Just run to the second case in the second row from the left. Stand facing its left side and press Action to open it and get the TELEPORTER DISK (17) (216/239). If you do this before the timer runs out, the "Open Up!" achievement/trophy should pop. (screenshots)
If you see a short cutscene showing the enemies breaking down the door (screenshot), you'll need to reload and try again.
Alternatively, if you are taking your time, you can use your wits to figure out which case holds the disk. Lara is safe from enemies here. Notice the button beyond the tinted glass windows. Now look for a cracked tile on the ceiling just inside the doorway. Stand Lara under it, facing the entrance. Then jump straight up and grab to pull open concealed trapdoor. Climb into the crawlspace above and crawl through to a small, dark room. Press the button to activate the X-ray machine. Now you can see which cases contain bombs and which contains the TELEPORTER DISK (17) (216/239). Crawl back out, open the correct case, and take the disk. (screenshots)
Crawl under the open trapdoor into the TELEPORTER ROOM. To the left of the door leading out into the corridor is a computer console. Use the TELEPORTER DISK here to activate the device. Move onto the teleporter platform. ("X" marks the spot.) Place the IRIS ARTIFACT in the metal armature. The device powers up, and Lara is transported to another room. (screenshots)
RED-LIT ROOM AFTER TELEPORTING: There's a hole in the floor behind Lara. Drop in and follow the passageway to a vent overlooking another hallway. (screenshots)
Cutscene: Zip tells Lara to watch the guard to learn the keypad combination.
HALLWAY WITH KEYPAD: Equip the headset and zoom in on the keypad. Soon the guard will come by and enter the combination: 1672. (See the Equipment Notes in the previous level for headset controls.) When you've got the code, continue to the end of the passageway and drop down near a crawlspace through which you can watch the hallway. Wait for the guard to approach. When he heads back to the left, crawl out. Wait for him to use the keypad and go through the locked door. Run forward and pick up the BOTTLE OF CHLOROFORM (18) (217/239) on the floor opposite the door. Run back to the crawlspace and hide once more. (screenshots)
Wait for the guard to come around again. When he heads back toward the keypad, crawl out, but don't approach him. When he goes through the locked door, run to the keypad and enter the combination (1672). Run up the ramp behind him and slow to a walk just before you reach the top. (You want to make sure he's standing still with his back toward Lara before you get too close.) Walk up behind the guard. As soon as you see the hand icon, open your Inventory, combine the CLOTH and CHLOROFORM, and use them to subdue the guard. (screenshots)
NOTES: If you go quickly and carefully, it's possible to grab the chloroform, use the keypad, and run/sneak up on the guard all in one go, but it's much less nerve-racking if you return to the crawlspace. You can quick-save there if things are going well. If you're having trouble sneaking up behind the guard before he notices Lara, instead open the door with the keypad as described above. Then run about three-quarters of the way up the ramp. Slow to a walk and continue to the crate with the stacked cylinders at the top of the ramp on the right. Climb over this crate, pick up the large medipack (19) (218/239), and wait here until the guard leaves again. (screenshots)
X-RAY CONTROL ROOM: If you didn't use the alternative strategy described in the note, make sure to get the large medipack (19) (218/239) behind the crate with the stacked cylinders at the top of the ramp (on the left when facing down the slope). Then press the button just inside the room (also on the left when facing down the ramp). This deactivates the X-ray machine and opens a door barring the way to the next area. (screenshots)
BACK TO THE BEGINNING: Crawl into the small, red-lit opening. Climb the ladder into the duct above. (If there's a closed door at the top of the ladder, go back and press the button to open it.) The trapdoor ahead opens as you approach. Roll out into the corridor where you started the level. Take your HK GUN (not counted as an official pickup) from the shelf where you left it and continue through the now-deactivated scanner. (screenshots)
At the T-intersection beyond the small lounge with the couches and water cooler, turn left. (The invisible lasers on the right are still armed.) Continue toward the large, wooden doors. There are 2 fire extinguishers here. Face the one in the doorway to the right of the security monitor. Step back so Lara won't catch fire and shoot the extinguisher in the doorway, blowing open the exit. Move out into the stairwell to end the level. (screenshots)
ALTERNATE METHOD FOR SECRET #1: Climbing down the chain to retrieve the first secret, as shown here, worked consistently for me in the remaster. If you're having trouble with it, or just want to try something different, here's another way: Crawl backwards out of the duct and hang onto the climbable wall. Press Look to move the camera behind Lara. Then climb down until Lara is hanging just above the alcove with the golden rose. If you like, you can quick-save here. Just be sure to hold Action when reloading so Lara doesn't fall. This next bit may take a few attempts. Press and release Back/Down to climb down a little at a time. When Lara's feet come off the wall, and she's hanging by her hands only, press and release Back/Down once more, so she descends a little further. You should see Lara slide forward just a little, so her hands disappear into the wall. Her shadow should be visible on the floor of the alcove. If this doesn't happen, climb up a little then back down until it does. Let go to land inside the alcove with the golden rose (9) (208/239) (SECRET #1, 31/36) Once you have it, take a standing jump back to the bottom of the chain. Then continue following the main walkthrough, above. (screenshots)
†UPDATE HISTORY: Updates made prior to the Tomb Raider IV-V-VI Remastered release, including credit for tips sent in by other players, are tracked in the archived classic guide.
12/21/25 - Remastered guide first posted.
*NOTES ON PICKUPS AND SECRETS: There are 239 pickups in the entire game. The total number of pickups includes 36 golden rose secrets. All pickups are required for the "Hoarding Order" achievement/trophy. Finding all secrets unlocks an achievement/trophy at the end of each level set (Rome, Russia, etc.) See the footnote following the STREETS OF ROME walkthrough for details on how these statistics are tracked in-game and in this walkthrough. In this particular level, there is one large medipack that does not count toward the 239-item total. See the section on the "Sweet Dreams" achievement/trophy, above, for details. Also, Lara leaves and later retrieves the HK gun. It is not counted as a pickup either.
**NOTE ON KILL COUNT: There are approximately 62 kills in the entire game. In this level, Lara is weaponless and doesn't actually kill anyone. So enemies are indicated with orange type, but your "official" kill count will not change.
