The original 1999 version of this walkthrough included the following methods for obtaining the pickups in the pit near the SNOWMOBILE AREA. I find the method featured in the main walkthrough much easier, but you're welcome to try these alternates if you like.

Method 1: Mid-Air Roll

Step up onto the low stone wall to the left of the wooden gate.

Position Lara in the spot shown above. That is, turn so the gate is behind Lara on her right and she's standing about 3 sidesteps away from the right wall, facing the jagged snowbank ahead. Walk forward to the edge of the low wall and pivot to face the point where the snowbank starts to slope up sharply to the left.

Hop back once.

Then take a running jump toward the snowbank.

Immediately press Roll, to turn in the air and land so Lara is facing uphill as she slides down the back of the snowbank.

Hold Action to grab the rim of the pit.

Traverse all the way to the left corner and drop.

Lara will lose nearly all her health in the fall, but if you started at 100% she'll survive.

NOTE: Rolling in mid-air seems to be much easier in the original Windows 95/98 levels. If you've installed the updated Windows Vista/7 version of The Golden Mask, you'll probably find this more difficult.
